MuAPI vs Higgsfield: How Much Does an 8-Second AI Video Really Cost

AI

You need a vertical video for a social media cover. Eight seconds, 720p, ideally with generated audio. Two APIs can do it today: MuAPI (running Veo3) and Higgsfield (running Wan 3.0, Kling, Seedance, and their own models). The question is price — and the answer depends on what you actually need.

What follows is not a quality comparison. We never generated a single clip on Higgsfield — the account has no credits and loading it is the owner's call, not ours. This is a cost and API comparison, built from the MuAPI production pipeline we already pay for and the Higgsfield `/estimate` endpoint that returns pricing without spending. Every number was measured on 21 September 2026 on real accounts.

Video with generated audio: MuAPI wins

MuAPI charges $0.60 for an 8-second clip via `veo3-fast-image-to-video` at 720x1280, 24fps, with audio generated from the visual content. The closest equivalent on Higgsfield is `alibaba/wan-3.0/image-to-video` at 720p with `generate_audio: true` — that costs $0.80. MuAPI is 25% cheaper for the same job.

If you need 1080p on Higgsfield, the price doubles to $1.60. MuAPI doesn't offer 1080p on this model — its output is fixed at 720p.

Video without audio: Higgsfield wins

If you already have your own soundtrack (as we do — each post gets a dedicated Suno track at $0.09), the generated audio isn't worth the premium. Without audio, Higgsfield's `kling-video/v3.0-turbo/image-to-video` at 720p costs $0.448 — 25% below MuAPI's $0.60.

The Kling standard model (`v3.0/std`) with our account's 50% discount comes to $0.504. Seedance 2.0 with a 30% discount reaches $2.42 for the same 8 seconds — it prices by video tokens, not by second, and the formula scales fast with resolution.

Still image: Higgsfield wins by a wide margin

One image via MuAPI's FLUX costs $0.015 at 1152x1440. Higgsfield's `soul/v2/standard` generates an image for $0.004 — 3.75 times cheaper.

But here's the trap: `soul/standard` (without the `v2`) costs $0.094. The two endpoint names differ by three characters and the price differs by 23x. One autocomplete mistake multiplies your bill without warning.

The catch — pricing page vs. real price

Higgsfield's public pricing page announces per-second rates at 480p resolution. The headline for Wan 3.0 reads "$0.05 per second." That's true — at 480p. At 720p, it's $0.10. At 1080p, $0.20. Someone planning a budget from the homepage and generating at 1080p pays 4x what they expected.

Seedance 2.0 doesn't price by second at all. It prices by video tokens — `ceil(seconds x width x height x 24 / 1024)` — which makes the jump from 480p ($1.08 for 8s) to 4K ($12.44) a surprise unless you run the formula yourself.

What's not about price

Higgsfield has presigned upload — you `POST /files/generate-upload-url`, get a signed URL, PUT your image, and receive a public URL back. MuAPI requires the `image_url` to already be publicly hosted; a data URI returns `422 url_too_long`. For anyone animating a cover that isn't published yet, that's one less step.

Higgsfield's concurrency limit returns HTTP 400 (not 429) with `"Maximum number of concurrent requests"`. Code that treats 400 as a fatal error loses the entire batch.

Output URLs from Higgsfield expire in roughly 7 days — always download immediately. Terminal states are `completed`, `failed`, `nsfw`, and `canceled`. Failed and NSFW jobs are not billed.

The API doesn't expose account balance. `/balance`, `/account`, `/credits`, `/me`, `/usage` all return 404. You discover you're out of credits when a submit responds `403 not_enough_credits` — without charging.

The honest verdict

For our specific job — one 8-second vertical clip per post with generated audio — MuAPI is cheaper ($0.60 vs $0.80). For teams that bring their own audio, Higgsfield's Kling turbo saves 25%. For still images, Higgsfield is nearly 4x cheaper.

There is no single winner. The answer is "it depends on whether you need generated audio" — and now you have the exact numbers to decide.
